St. Jacob (Jacobus) belonged to the circle of the twelve apostles and was later the patron saint of pilgrims. According to legend, he is said to have worked in Spain. A church was built over his alleged grave, around which the city of Santiago de Compostela was built, which has been one of the most famous pilgrimage sites in Christianity since the Middle Ages.
