The Bellovaci were a group of people from the Picardy region in Northern France. This coin was struck after Julius Caesar conquered the area. The tribe lived in a “high wooded place surrounded by marsh”. When Caesar realized that the Bellovaci intended to increase their settlement area he decided it was better to show Roman superiority against the tribe versus non-intervention. The fighting strategy of the Bellovaci was guerilla warfare. Caesar had a strategy that relied on the enemy being in the opening and then initiating an attack.  After a series of small battles Caesar claimed victory over the tribe.
