Ancient Soloi is about 10 km to the modern Turkish city of Mersin. As Soloi was a coastal city and also near the Cilician Gates (a pass connecting the low plains of Cilicia to the Anatolian Plateau) it remained an important city throughout the years. At the time that this coin was struck, Soloi was still a part of the Persian territory and was allegiant to the Achaemenid Dynasty.  It struck coins on the Persian standard and was a vassal state.
