This coin was struck in the 3rd century AD. The city state was under the leadership of Imperial Rome. Prior to this, only a handful of Phrygian city states even struck money. It was largely determined by whether a sancuary was situated there or if it was a halting point on the way through Phrygia. Indeed, once the Roman oversaw Phrygia it became more properous. Mints began to pop up all over the area in parts where previously no coin was struck. Such is the case with Akomoneia.
