When it comes to pedigrees and historic coin collections, oftentimes the coins can outshine the collector. With Dr. Feori Pipito however, this is simply not the case! Born in 1917, he grew up in Albany, New York with his four siblings. After attending Union College, Albany Medical College, and the University of Chicago, he joined the Army in 1945. During the war, Pipito served as the Chief doctor at the Allied prisoner of war camp at Dusseldorf and was responsible for the health and wellbeing of over 100,000 German service members. After the war, like many other soldiers, he returned to small town America. He would go on to establish a small medical practice, through which he “delivered over 1000 babies”! While initially a bibliophile, Pipito quickly moved into numismatics, and by the late 1940’s was a hopelessly incurable collector!
