Hadrian had a strong relationship with Egypt. He visited a few times during his reign and famously his lover, Antinuous died a mysterious death in the Nile. Hadrian named a town after him close to where he died and erected several temples to him after his death. The amount of coinage that was struck in Egypt from Hadrian’s reign is numerous and confirms his apparent affinity for the country.
