The god on the reverse is a peculiar figure in mythology, Achelous. Achelous was intended to personify the Achelous River in Greece. Achelous was a fresh water god, and was the most important figure amongst his 3,000 brothers. All springs, rivers and oceans are said to spring from him. In mythology, he unsuccessfully fought Hercules for the hand of Deianeira.
