For the Egyptians the frog symbol signified life and fertility. This arose based on the annual flooding of the Nile which brought millions of frogs each year as well as life. On coins we rarely see the symbolism of a frog. This type did not last after the Julio-Claudian era so the appearance of the frog is a delightful exception to the normal eagle found on coins from Alexandria.
